I know the data scientist vs analyst debate is controversial right now as, particularly in the tech sector right now, Data Scientist’s are seen as the hottest thing since sliced bread but in reality are a lot of these positions can be fluffed up Data Analyst positions to entice more applicants and give the illusion of a cutting edge back-end or open remit.
Forbes themselves said Data Scientist was the hottest job of last year or close enough and surly they can’t be wrong!
So what’s even with the Data Scientist vs Analyst debate?
Well, if you speak to a lot of entrepreneurs and business owners with significant experience with Business Analyst, Data Analyst and Data Scientists you might here a more nuanced story.
In fact many Entrepreneur prefer an experienced Business Analyst who understand the sector and the challenges they face as both a company and an industry.
Back that Analyst up with a half decent software engineer who should easily be able to perform the pull and structure role and you have a very good spread of complimentary competences.
The reason they form this opinion is the output. No matter the technical proficiency of the Data Scientist do they actually generate a positive outcome against your business challenge? It seems some Business Owners feel a Business Analyst with category experience – and it’s the category experience that matters – believe so.
